Dzul Ha is great! You're free to snorkel on your own and it truly is beautiful.
Let me toss another wrench in the works: If you don't want to hang with a crowd of people and want more of a custom-made trip, get in touch with Eagle Ray Divers. They have a 3-reef snorkel trip that includes lunch on a beach. Or, if you really want to do something fun, you can try Scuba through their Discover Scuba trip. We did that last year with them and loved it so much we wound up studying (& diving) the whole time we were there and got certified.
