For good deals on things, venture back off the beaten path a couple of blocks. There are little restaurants and shops away from the main drag that are really neat. And no worries. This is a very safe island.

If you're shopping for jewelry, your best deal is going to be on silver. Stay away from deals on "natural" stones. 9.5 times out of 10, from what I've read elsewhere, the stones are artificial.

You will get "hasseled" (probably too strong a word for it) by shopowners to come into their stores, look at their t-shirts, etc. A friendly "no gracias" will do and they'll leave you alone.
