The recent boom in construction is due to a ban on new construction being imposed by the Mexican government effective 1-1-2000 for the entire Mayan Riviera area, including Cozumel. Projects need to be started to ensure a place on the island. The government wants to study ecological damage in the area and no ending time has been given, therefore the mad scramble!!!
Rates will probably remain cheap for a little while but the long term chances for cheao rates in Coz may be ending.
