Progress of the "Perimeter Road"Posted by Jim in Cancun in San Antonio on October 03, 1999 at 09:41:46:
![]() Article in yesterday's paper: "Slow but sure COZUMEL.- The perimeter road around the island is still under construction although work is proceeding at a snail's pace. Many of the sections are flooding during this rainy season and crews are forced to resort to using pumping equipment to empty out low lying areas. this situation became quite apparent during an inspection visit by reporters who were forced to wait along several stretches of road while crews cleared the way following rains. Clearing work for the road is moving along at a comparable pace while some parts of the new thoroughfare have already been asphalted and other parts received what is referred to as a sealant. Some areas have been applied more asphalt than others but that is the general picture of what is taking place in the road construction. heavy machinery is being used to clear the underbrush for the road around kilometers 18 and 19. these areas however are more prone to flooding than others and heavy layers of fill have been applied there in an attempt to raise the level of the road bed in order to eliminate problems caused by its low-lying characteristics."
