festivities in cozumel leading up to carnival

My parents have gone many years running and are once again travelling there again this january, they are wondering when the festivities in the square will be starting up on the sunday nights. They thoroughly enjoyed the costumes and music-i believe it was a leadup to the celebrations in february. They were there too early last year and missed out. They are leaving on the 21st this year and are really hoping to catch it.
