I would like to thank everyone on this board, other boards, and islanders for there thoughful and caring support of our Lucky, an abandoned horse we have been taking care of for the last year. Lucky was one of 9 horses who were killed by poisoning at the Los Laureles ranch, on the north side of the island, in the middle of the new golf course. Three weeks ago, 3 horses were deathly ill, from an unknown source. Fructoso, the ranch manager, has never seen anything like this in his over 50 years of handling horses. Their intestines swelled to bursting point, killing these horses very slowly. Within 4 days, a total of 8 horses had died. They all died a very painful and horrifying death. Lucky was the last, and the most painful. He held on for 4 days, fighting, 2 days longer than other horses. The water testing done by the government came back negative, the liver tests came back with the cause of death "intoxification"-of what, they do not state. Lucky was a fighter, noble and gentle horse. He loved carrots and walking along the shore. Thank you for all of your help, time and donations. If you would like to help some horses, you can go out to the ranch Los Laureles, just past the Melia Paradisus Hotel on the north side, and take a horseback tour. These horse lovers have had a great loss, financially and emotionally, and have no way to replace the loss, no insurance, no one to blame legally to recuperate their business. Every tour will help them to relocate and restock. I have documented the death, and put it on a web page, but it is graphic and extremely sad, be warned.
