: Stayed at Sol Cabanas Del Caribe. Great place for the price. Restaurant was excellent(truly). People everywhere were so nice and friendly, no begging BS. The island is clean but under construction in lots of areas. The North end has great snorkeling right off beach and is close to town. The south end is desolate except for hotels. Beaches look nice there too. Dzul Ha and Chakanaab have excellent snorkeling, would do both. Take the morning star for snorkeling trip to Columbia and Palancar reefs, trust me, it's worth the $50. I could not dive due to sinuses and it was awesome to snorkel. Definately rent a car and tour the island. You can surf on the other coast and there are places to rent boards and drink beer. This one place has an anteater for a pet. Nightlife kind of sucks. If you like TGI Fridays, you'll love Carlos & charlies. They try real hard to have fun but it is too american. If you want local flavor,La Chumba, Black & white , & Joe's reggae bar(cheaper too). Food is excellent, especially seafood. Not cheap, nothing is! Not too expensive either ($20 gets you a nice lobster,$12 nice fish,& $8 Fajitas). The ocean is the best part of cozumel,fishing,diving,etc. If you like cancun or Jamaica, you might not dig Coz. It is very Eco and pure,but the ship tourists ruin it.If you want to really party go to cancun. If you want a nice trip and love water sports, it is nice. Personally, I do not think I will ever go there again. It was too american,especially on prices,yet boring. I would go there for the diving but nothing else.I want to try Ixtapa and maybe Talum,etc.Too many Gringos in cozumel.Hope this answers some questions for 1st timers. You will have fun and it is pretty but don't expect the trip of a lifetime.
