: I'm visiting this resort at the end of Jan/2001 and was wondering if anyone has any information on it, good or bad. This is the older resort I'm looking for information on and not the Royale.

: Thanks Much

Darren;
I have been to the El Dorado Resort and Spa and it was wonderful. It was, however, In February of 1997. I think you will find this place to be most enjoyable. It is a pretty small resort as most resorts go. It only had about 110 rooms when I was there. I do believe that they have been adding on since. The food was excellent and the all the employees were top knotch.
If there were to be a blemish on this resort I would have to say its lack of a coral free swim area. The beach is beautiful with many palapa huts and a wait staff to bring you anything your heart desires. There is a pier that goes out into the water to get you past most of the coral or you can walk down the beach a ways and there is a nice coral free swimming area. While I was there Tuesdays and Fridays were Lobster nights in the Restaurants. There were three to choose from.
While you are there take a taxi to Akumal, a small fishing village about 20 minutes south with several nice restaurants, two dive shops, and two small grocery stores. We fell in love with this quaint little place and rented a house there on our next visit to the area. The Turtle Bay Bakery and Cafe was a highlight as well as Lo-Ha another fine Restaurant. Try the shrimp jammers they're to die for. We will be in Cozumel at the end of January it would be kind of cool if we could meet maybe at Playa del Carmen. Well enjoy yourself and if you have anymore Questions feel free to post them as I frequent this board at least 5 times a week.
