I am thinking about staying at Bravo Club El Mandarin. I was wondering if you could give me a quick run down on your thoughts about the facilities, food, water sports etc. : We were two families, 6 persons. My daughter is 3 years old and my wife is pregnant. : We started trip 4.30 AM, got there at midnight (9 PM local time). They had no place for us, and the only alternative they offered was in Cancun. We didn't want to go there, and they didn't give us any solution. At midnigh (local), we found by our means, a hotel with less stars (but better people)in Playa, and went there by our own expenses, without signing a tricky letter, that pretended to free Allegro from all responsibility. (They always said that there was absolutely no vacancy in Playa!) : I'm not a rich man, and the idea of the trip was to see some relatives that live in Playa, otherwise, I wouldn't have spent that money. : The recepcionist, Wendy, treated us very bad, and we never succeed to get somebody with more responsibility to show his face that night. I was really angry, it's not fair for a child and a pregnant woman to experience that, specially on holidays. : Next day, we talked to the agency in Chile, and they finally got us rooms at Bravo Club "El Mandarín" (which did have vacancy the previous night, it just wasn't an Allegro Hotel). It was the afternoon, so the Hotel we were (Tortuga), charged an additional day. Allegro payed only the first day, we payed the second and discounted it to the agency in Chile. We got two cars in compensation, because of the extra distance. Honestly I don't feel compensated at all. : I want to make clear that it is not a isolated case. With us, there were two other families, one from Argentina, also with kids, that had to pay another hotel by their own all the week (also in Playa... it wasn't so hard to find after all). The third one was from USA, the got a room in Allegro (I guess because in USA you can sue easier than in Latin America?) : Even worst: we were awared that this could happen, because it happened before to some friends, so we insited to the agency to be absolutley sure. Allegro always said everything was OK... : I don't believe the expanations they gave us (failure in the reservation software...). I think they like to work like that, maybe because an important amount of people won't say anything. I didn't want to ruin my vacations and spend time and energy later sueing them, maybe I should. : The other reason to avoid Allegro, is that it is not really nice, at least what I saw the second day, in the Allegro beach, when we were waiting for the agency to solve our problem. The beach is very crowdy and not very wide, you will have troubles to get a chair, and forget about a shadow. Close to the pool, it was plenty of smoke from the barbecues. I didn't see the rooms. : Mandarin is nice, the crew has a completely different attitude, and the installations are good. Not much Mexican food (only with previous reservation), you will find international and Italian food, the operator and therefore the major part of the passengers are Italian. I don't know the difference in price.
