Really?Posted by David on April 18, 2000 at 15:52:14: In Reply to: Re: Has anyone been on the Atlantis Submarine? posted by Wayne on April 16, 2000 at 15:12:50: Hmmm....you say it was a true submarine, and it went 100 feet down? Did the *entire* boat go underwater? I'm pretty sure the Atlantis "submarine" I saw there was not capable of fully submerging....it was a boat that had a large passenger section below water line (essentually an enclosed glass-bottom boat), and a small part that remained above the surface...the passengers went below the surface, but the boat didn't submerge. Did your boat actually go completely below the surface? And if so, did it really go 100 feet down? I thought the tourist submarines (the real ones) only went like 25' deep. At 100 feet, there's quite a bit of water pressure and I can't help but wonder about how much extra engineering would need to be done to make a tourist boat (i.e, one with lots of windows to see out) safe at that depth. I also wonder about what kind of safety measures would be necessary to commercially operate a true submarine to 100 feet and do it with a good margin of safety. Perhaps I am misinformed....
