In Reply to: It's Thimble Jellyfish Season through begin of June! posted by Andi from CA on April 13, 2000 at 19:29:01:

I just spent a week in Cozumel. There were a few days that we were advised to stay close to the beach and the location of a snorkel tour was changed. This was after a few windy days that blew in bands of thimble jellyfish. I saw them from a kayak, looked almost like bands of seaweed. I snorkled (luckily unscathed) through a small spread out cluster. Andi offers very good advice for a packing list as a precaution, but I did not meet one person who had a problem. As long as you listen to warnings and keep your eyes open this shouldn't have an effect on your trip.

: I have noticed several posts about this on another Cozumel board. Included Benadryl, Cortisone Cream and Vinegar to your packing list just in case. Make sure you shower off after the ocean especially inside your bathing suits. The Jellyfish larvae likes to hang out inside of peoples bathing suits. I have experienced it myslef 2 years ago. But that does not mean that you will have a problem for sure. We where in Playa del carmen last May and nothing happend. But if it does you will have big nasty itchy blisters. Not fun! Just something to be aware of at least. Sorry to bum anyone out but I am a bit concerned myslef and thought you should at least know about this. The locals call it Aquamales!
