I've only snorkeled Dzul Ha from the Arrecifes when I booked a full day snorkeling tour. I agree that it has a lot to offer. However, I have read on the boards that as you enter from shore, you will find a lot of urchins. Be careful. Surf shoes have been recommended. Also people have warned me of the swift current. You just need to be aware of how far from your exit location you are getting. It wasn't an issue snorkeling from a boat. Everyone agrees that it is well worth the cab ride to snorkel there.
