Sounds like Trudy knows what she's talking about to me...

In Reply to: TRUDY... Your knowledge of Cozumel is very limited. How many times have you been there? Twice? So shut up. posted by White Shark on February 06, 2000 at 12:21:31:

Six years on the island and I've crossed a vehicle three times... paid someone to cross it the second and third time!

Only cross a vehicle if you plan on having it on the island for a long period of time. The ferry departs at midnight from Puerto Morelos and you sit waiting in line in your car for hours... or days if the line is long. My first crossing we spent two days in line! Yes, lots of truckers that were much smarter than us. They at least brought their hammochs!

The second day in line we rented a hotel for a couple of hours during the day trying to catch some sleep before heading back and waiting in line in the car.

At that time the total round-trip cost was about $130 USD equivalent but it was several years ago.

Not an experience you want to remember. Definitely rent your car in Cozumel!

Trudy's summary of taxi/bus scenario is correct. If you are travelling to the airport it is easier to take a taxi or airport van when available.
The airport van is cheaper but never seems to be operating when I need it. The bus is economical but if you consider that you have to spend another hour taking a city from the airport to downtown Cancun bus station and then a bus back out to Playa, it is a great deal of time to save a few bucks.

Have fun!

: : : My wife and I will be honeymooning for one week in Cozumel in late May. If I flew into Cancun and rented a car and drove to Playa Del Carmen, is there a ferry line that transports cars to Cozumel, and if so, do you have any idea how much it would cost to transport a vehicle? Thank you for your help.

: : I don't know the cost to ferry a car to the island, but I would think it would be cheaper to take the bus to Playa and the ferry to Cozumel where you can rent a different car.

: : I know there is a ferry at Punta Moreles...Puerto Moreles...something like that. I forget. They ferry huge trucks to the island. Don't know how often they cross, but I've seen the trucks lined up on a side street waiting to be loaded on the ferry in the morning.

: : You can take a cab from Cancun to Playa del Carmen for $58. The bus is cheaper, but the cab is more direct.
