The Cave Nohoch Nah Chich

The name, Nohoch Nah Chich, means giant bird cage in Mayan. This is the most decorated underwater cave system in the Akumal/Quintana Roo area and indeed the world. It is the worlds largest surveyed underwater cave, with over 130,000 ft of line installed. In 1996, Chuck Stevens and Mike Madden established a connection, through Balankanche, all the way to the sea at Casa Cenote! Dude! Oh yeah, this is Mikes cave by the way. Mike Madden has been the principle force behind the exploration of Nohoch and owner of Cedam Dive Shop. The Cedam Dive shop is the only way get to dive this awesome system. This cave also has firepits and human remains dating to the last ice age. The fire pits show scorch marks on the walls of the cave where plumes of smoke left soot deposits. Somewhat awesome...dude. If you are a CAVEDIVER this place is your Mecca.
